Preschool curriculums are designed with emphasis on developmentally appropriate academics which include, but are not limited to, the following:
A newsletter written by the Director will be placed in your child’s file the first week of the month. Parents can also sign up at the front desk to receive school updates and information via email. The newsletter will contain valuable information on school events.
Each teacher posts a lesson plan for the week, special class activities and her newsletter on the “Parent Info” board in the classroom. Feel free to ask a teacher to contact you after class if you have any questions or concerns. The Director is available during class time if needed.
The Scottsdale School is licensed by the Arizona Department of Health Services at 150 N. 18th Ave., Suite 400, Phoenix, AZ. Their phone number is 602-364-2539. To insure compliance with state regulations, there are regular inspections of our facility. Inspection reports are available for viewing in the school office or by contacting DHS directly.
The Scottsdale School carries liability insurance as required by the Arizona Department of Health Services. We also carry accident insurance for all enrolled children.
Parents can come unannounced any morning after 9:30 a.m. and before 11:00 a.m. to visit and pick-up a brochure and registration form. The Director can answer specific questions and help you get acquainted with school policies. Parents may do this in one visit. You will be advised at this time when you may register your child for the school year or summer camp.
You may withdraw your child anytime by giving at least a two-week notice. Parents are obligated to pay two weeks of current tuition should they withdraw their child without giving written notice.
We will make an effort to provide for children with special needs provided we have the appropriate facilities and the teacher is sufficiently trained and willing to provide the necessary service. We consider such a request on an individual, case-by-case basis.
Registration fees are not refundable. The Director establishes tuition and hourly rates at the time of admission.
For the sake of all children and staff members, we ask that you keep your child home if he/she has any of the following within the last 24 hours: Fever *Diarrhea * Bad Cough * Upset Stomach/Vomiting * Diagnosed with a bacterial
infection and placed on antibiotics.
If your child becomes ill at school, you will be called and expected to pick your child up immediately.
Medication may be given at school, but only in the carefully prescribed manner. We prefer parents to administer medication at home, but we will if necessary.
Ask the Director for specific paperwork to be completed for medications and Epipens. Medications are kept in a locked box at all times in the office or refrigerator. Medications are never to be sent to school in a lunchbox or put in a child’s cubbie.
The Scottsdale School utilizes a positive approach to discipline. We help a child learn what is expected and acceptable behavior. The classroom environments are established to provide an atmosphere that is conducive to a child developing a healthy self-esteem by using positive reinforcement. We believe in putting the focus on the behavior, not the child.
If a serious discipline problem should occur, a meeting would be scheduled with parents, teacher and Director. If the problem persists even with additional meetings, and with no progress or resolution, a child may be asked to withdraw
from the program.
Our front door is locked from the outside and requires a code to enter the school. A pin number will be assigned when your child is registered. We encourage parents to help us enforce safety rules. One of our greatest concerns is for your child’s safety. Listed below are a few procedures parents need to follow:
Each room is equipped with a video camera and telephone. We feel this is an added feature for the safety of staff and children. Parents may watch their child at any time on the monitors in the office.
Please dress your child in comfortable clothing and closed-toed shoes. Sneakers or tennis shoes are best. No Crocs or flip-flops.
At the time of enrollment all parents are to provide the school with a complete health record and important information useful in case of an emergency. This information is found on the Blue Card. These will be kept in the office. It is extremely important to keep these cards up-to-date with current address, phone
and emergency contacts.
Staff members trained in first aid will care for the day-to-day bumps and bruises.
Should an emergency arise, parents will be notified and paramedics called if
Each class needs participation and support from parents. The school offers many special events and parties, as teachers will also have extra-curricular activities. In order for these to be successful, orderly and safe, the participation of parents is highly requested and necessary. The school will announce parent meetings monthly; this is when parents can help plan activities, offer ideas, evaluate past events and help implement the next event. However, if you are not able to attend the meetings we will gladly inform you of plans and will give you the opportunity to sign up for various ways to become involved.
